The fifth edition of the Chittagong University Model United Nations (CUMUN 2019) convened on January 24, 2019, at the University of Chittagong campus, building upon the institutional legacy of its four predecessors spanning 2015 through 2018. CUMUN 2019 emerged as a benchmark forum for rigorous diplomatic simulation within Bangladesh's Model UN circuit.
The four-day conference assembled more than 400 delegates representing premier academic institutions from across the nation. Proceedings were distributed across 10 distinct committees focused on complex multilateral negotiations. Under the central theme, "Envisioning a Sustainable Future Through Addressing Global Challenges," the conference addressed an international landscape marked by widening economic disparities and persistent systemic conflicts. The agenda intentionally positioned youth not merely as observers of global volatility, but as active architects of international policy spanning structural frameworks in food security, intellectual property, climate governance, and human rights.

Behind the scenes
The Secretariat
The execution of a conference of this scale rests upon an extensive, synchronized administrative infrastructure. Behind every committee session, protocol mandate, and operational detail stood a Secretariat comprising over 100 student officers from the University of Chittagong, who dedicated months of strategic planning prior to the opening plenary.

Moments from CUMUN 2019
Opening Ceremony
The auditorium filled to capacity with the quiet rustle of formal attire and the weight of anticipation. What followed was not a reminder: leadership, properly understood, carries an intellectual and ethical gravity that does not lift when the conference ends. A single strike of the gavel cut through the room, and the plenary gave way to purpose.
The Social
On the second evening, the formal parliamentary register transitioned into a high-energy cultural showcase. A profound mime production on the Liberation War drew a standing ovation from the entire hall, anchoring an evening of musical arrangements, mashups, and poetry. The event provided a vital, informal venue for delegates to build cross-institutional networks beyond the committee floor.
Closing Ceremony
The final plenary brought four days of intense negotiation, strategic maneuvering, and draft resolutions to a definitive conclusion. Official commendations were conferred upon individual delegates for exceptional research capacity, oratorical precision, and consensus-building diplomacy — bringing CUMUN 2019 to a structured, purposeful close.
