The trajectory of youth leadership in Chattogram reached a new milestone in the spring of 2015. For the first time, the Chittagong University Model United Nations Association brought the circuit's global standard directly to the port city, launching the historic first edition of the Chittagong University Model United Nations. Convened at the Faculty of Business Administration auditorium, the conference successfully unlocked the tremendous academic potential of southern Bangladesh, establishing a lasting legacy for generations to follow.

The debut session instantly expanded into an international summit, drawing 240 delegates from premier domestic institutions alongside delegations traveling from Sri Lanka, Nepal, India, and Cambodia.

Operating under the central theme, "Empowering Youth for Green Diplomacy," CUMUN 2015 forced a rigorous intersection between climate politics and international finance. Under the guidance of Secretary General Shahriar Mottakin, the conference challenged participants to step out of abstract theories and manage the exact legislative friction of global resource management, economic dependencies, and human rights. It was a calculated risk that fundamentally rewrote the rules of extra-curricular education in southern Bangladesh, proving that the student body of Chittagong University could execute a world-class diplomatic simulation on its own terms.

Behind the scenes

The Secretariat

As the pioneers of the MUN framework in Chattogram, the CUMUN 2015 Secretariat designed the foundational logistical and academic blueprint for all subsequent regional iterations. Operating within the unique, expansive geography of the university campus, the team engineered a comprehensive security matrix that guaranteed absolute safety for national and international delegations, managed seamless cross-border onboarding, and coordinated specialized department-level conference venues. Their historic performance set the institutional benchmark for regional conference execution.

The Shuttle Train Experience & Campus Tours

A signature element embedded into the operational blueprint of CUMUN 2015 was the integration of the iconic Chittagong University Shuttle Train. International and domestic delegates utilized the unique train ride as an informal theater for geopolitical alignment, converting the daily commute into an active forum for alliance building. This was accompanied by structured 'CU Tours,' taking delegates through the dense greenery and scenic valleys of the largest university campus in the country.

Opening Ceremony

The inaugural session commenced with immense enthusiasm at the BBA Faculty Auditorium. The opening ceremony set a rigorous academic standard, with introductory keynotes emphasizing that extra-curricular diplomatic platforms are essential catalysts for professional corporate integration and international leadership development. With the official declaration of the Secretary General, the first formal gavel struck, transitioning the 240 young diplomats directly into intensive committee debates.

Socials

On the second evening, the academic register transitioned into a highly unique cultural showcase at the Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium. The event celebrated diversity through high-energy choreography performed by the indigenous ethnic minority groups of Bangladesh, followed by native cultural performances presented by visiting international delegates. The cultural extravaganza concluded with a live, full-scale rock concert.

Closing Plenary

The final day witnessed an intense acceleration of parliamentary workflow as delegates rushed to vote on definitive resolution papers. A total of 20 elite individual awards were conferred based on exceptional diplomacy, analytical precision, and oratorical skill. Celebrating the collective output of all five committees, the ceremony validated the intellectual capacity of the assembly and marked the successful adjournment of this historic first session.
